Description of the Kit

The Mourner’s Compendium of Grief & Remembrance is a solemn Victorian-inspired cabinet appointed for private mourning, quiet reflection, and the preservation of cherished memory. Its preparations, tokens, writing materials, and small instruments draw upon the visual language of nineteenth-century mourning customs: black lace and ribbon, lockets and keys, tears and fragrant vapours, flowers, candles, and objects kept close in remembrance. The cabinet does not ask grief to be hurried or set aside; rather, it offers a place in which sorrow, devotion, and memory may be gently witnessed and given form.
